LED BY JESUS, Carlos Ayub took the one step to freedom—from angry, workaholic prisoner of alcohol and drugs, to a peaceful, joyful servant of others. Carlos was very successful in the cable industry, but he was frustrated and empty. He tried to fill the emptiness with drink and drugs, but it didn’t work. He envied the peace, serenity and joy that his wife Pat had in Jesus Christ. But he didn’t turn his life over to Jesus until a close friend was killed in a drug deal gone bad. His wife and daughters couldn’t believe this rotten, selfish person could change, but they saw Carlos turn into a happy man, living to bring Jesus to others and others to Jesus. Carlos became a pastor at Calvary Chapel of Vista, CA where he developed the One Step to Freedom lessons with pastor Joey Buran and Senior Pastor Brian Broderson. After proving that One Step to Freedom worked far better than 12 step programs, Pastor Carlos took the lessons to Colorado, where he started Calvary Chapel of Delta, and then to Costa Mesa, CA. The One Step Recovery Ministry is still in operation at Vista, at Delta, and at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, where Jesus continues to use it to free men and women from chains of habit, sin and steel.
