Released Time Christian Education

In the book of Colossians the apostle Paul encourages the church to pray diligently for him and his co-workers to be given an “open door” to   minister the gospel message.  God has provided that “open door” of ministry to children attending public school through a nationwide program called Released Time Christian Education. Because of a concerned Superintendent of Schools, a law was passed in l914 which was upheld in a Supreme County decision  in 1952.  The law states that children can be taken out of the classroom once a week for one hour, by permission of their parents, to receive religious training.

The program in the city of Santa Ana, California  is now three years old. It is a ministry of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and is being directed by Pastor Carlos Ayub who oversees the Hands of Hope Ministries.  There are l45 children  participating, with classes being held in four of  the district elementary schools this year. Lay teachers teach a fun filled, exciting , Bible story using visuals, music, and games. If you are interested in learning more about the Santa Ana program please call and ask for Janie in the Hands of Hope Office at 714-979-4422  ext. 3105.
