Orphanage Sponsorship: An Opportunity to Expand Your Local Church's Reach for God's Kingdom and His Children

Orphanage Sponsorship is a three-fold relationship. Its overreaching goal is to benefit the orphans
within reach of Children's HopeChest ministries. The following diagram maps out this relationship:

Each entity in the relationship is vitally important to the other two.

The orphanages provide a focus of ministry for both Children's HopeChest and the local churches.

The local church provides a more focused and intimate program of care than HopeChest could otherwise provide. This is obviously a great benefit to the orphans we serve.

Children's HopeChest offers needed expertise and resources to benefit the orphans, and access to the orphanage for the local church.

In the countries we serve Children's HopeChest enjoys a favored relationship with the Ministries of Education and Social Services, which oversee the work of the orphanages. Today, officials from these ministries not only introduce, but validate the ministry of HopeChest to orphanage directors. If this relationship ever crumbles, the doors to all orphanages would close to all aspects of our ministry - including Orphanage Sponsorship.

In Orphanage Sponsorship, the Ministry of Education and the orphanage itself do not perceive a difference between Children's HopeChest and the sponsor church of the orphanage. They see the church only as a part of Children's HopeChest. Anything done by the church reflects upon HopeChest, and will impact the relationship between HopeChest and the government agencies that oversee the orphanages we serve.

This reality makes it crucial that the church and HopeChest operate as one entity. The tested model for Orphanage Sponsorship is that the church involved in sponsorship be an arm of the ministry - not a separate and independent body merely traveling with HopeChest. This model takes advantage of HopeChest's standing with the government agencies involved, and also generates similar expectations regarding the kind of assistance HopeChest will provide from orphanage to orphanage.

Orphanage Sponsorship: The Benefits

Children's HopeChest has sound relationships with some 71 orphanages or technical schools (the latter serving orphaned adolescents) representing 5,700 orphans. At present, 12 churches are serving God's Kingdom as sponsors of orphanages through HopeChest.

Every church that engages in HopeChest Orphanage Sponsorship provides benefits to three main groups: the orphans, the orphanage, and the church itself as listed below:

A. For the orphans, church sponsorship:

• Allows them to establish healthy relationships with Christian adults.
• Models Christ's unconditional love. Provides them with an extended family, devoted to praying for them and meeting some of their needs.
• Brings crucial individual attention to each orphan.

B. For the orphanage, church sponsorship:

• Brings additional and much-needed financial and humanitarian aid to provide a better quality of living for the orphans.
• Provides support and training to the caregivers as well as the orphans.
• Introduces the orphanage to a partner who cares as much for the children as the caregivers do.
• Provides more and better programming to supplement and enhance life inside the orphanage on a daily basis.

C. For the church, sponsorship:

• Provides a long-term, tangible missions focus in which the entire church - Sunday school classes, small groups, VBS programs and work teams alike - can become involved.
• Provides infrastructure for missions as well as admission into the country (visa processing) and into the orphanage (because of HopeChest's relationship with the local government).
• Increases overall church missions income.
• Allows the church direct involvement with a ministry audience (the orphans) as opposed to another indirect "pictures only" relationship with the field.
• Provides the church with a natural way to increase faith and dependency on the Lord.
• Provides a potential relationship with a church from the orphanage community.
• Opens doors for ministry to the surrounding community.

We will provide general direction and guidance, but we do not have a "narrow" model of Orphanage Sponsorship because we believe that each orphanage has different needs. Therefore, it is only right that each church will respond to those needs differently.

CBC's Orphanage Sponsorship will leverage a profound change in the lives of hundreds of orphans, by bringing the vital ministry of our church and Children's HopeChest into their lives.
